Praise for Kids Dance
In August 2008, five students traveled to Chicago to perform A Stair Dance at the Chicago Dancing Festival. Last April, three six-graders had a chance to perform in The Spaghetti Ballet, a new dance choreographed by Mr. Feld for the company's two-week performance season at the Joyce Theater.
"…The most charming section of the evening [was] an opening-night-only classwork demonstration by impeccably groomed and professional students from [Eliot Feld's] Ballet Tech school."
(Roslyn Sulcas, The New York Times, March 28, 2009)
"A Stair Dance, one of the most beguiling pieces of the evening, came via Eliot Feld's Ballet Tech Kids Dance, the pre-professional troupe comprised of New York City's
public school students trained in Feld's tuition-free dance school. Feld displayed a real touch of genius here as he took Steve Reich's rhythmically complex and sophisticated music and made it
totally accessible by having his five fleet young dancers engage in playground-style footwork."
(Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun-Times, August 22, 2008)
"The terrific juvenile team from Ballet Tech Kids Dance were a marvel in one of the Eliot Feld's inimitable geometric explorations, set to Steve Reich, and performed on steps."
(Sid Smith, Chicago Tribune, August 22, 2008)
"One high point was Dotty Polkas, a new piece choreographed for children who study at his school. Whether or not many go on to careers in dance, Mr. Feld has created a junior ballet ensemble that for once reflects the spirit and racial composition of New York City. And in Dotty Polkas, to music by Johann Strauss, he has given the youngsters dance that both stretches them and allows them simply to be their spirited, charming selves onstage."
(Jennifer Dunning, The New York Times, April 11, 2008)
